The Conception

December, 2007

For many years, I’ve had the dream and desire to have a jazz quintet like the one I now possess. When I would be listening to the Miles Davis quintet or Art Blakely’s Jazz Messengers, I would visualize having a group of my own someday. Well, that someday arrived about a year ago.

It all started when I had an open date to fill at this venue that I was booking and performing in. Most of the top players were working elsewhere on this particular date, so I thought — here’s my opportunity to put a quintet together just to play some jazz and have some fun. The musicians that I called fortunately had the night off and were free. Se we assembled for the performance, no rehearsals, just a few arrangements and commenced to playing. After the first set, I knew I was onto something; and after the evening was over, I knew right then and there that I had found the group of musicians that I wanted — and immediately, the conception of the Armand Boatman Be Bop Revolution became a reality.

About the Music

The personnel is an all star cast from Phoenix, Arizona, all with a long track record of recording dates, appearances with major jazz figures, festivals and tours. “The musicians are having so much fun on stage and playing with such energy, you can’t help but get caught up in the infectious happy vibe of the music.”
